YSO is leading a nomadic existence. Crowded out by rising rents or university schedules, it found a temporary home on Saturday in Bootham School Hall, tucking itself down one side of the auditorium, with the audience on the other or in the balcony. It took both groups time to adjust.

IT is unusual to have music by both Brahms and Schumann in the same string quartet programme, but the Vanbrugh – who are now into their third decade together – know all about breaking with convention. They opened with Mozart’s “Dissonance” quartet, K. 465 in C, which certainly does just that.

BOTH gigs at The Shed were billed as Standing Only gigs, but only one is still standing. Whereas Led Bib’s dirty, noisy jazz night last weekend had to be cancelled, Oren Marshall and The Charming Transport Band have sold out tomorrow gig at Hovingham Village Hall, near York.
