Postal centre to transport hub?

9:31am Monday 6th October 2008

Recently I went on a coach “package” holiday, which started with an early morning pick-up at Leeman Road Gardens, where there is minimal protection for waiting passengers should it be wet or windy.

Homes for future

9:30am Monday 6th October 2008

I was interested to read Paul Cordock’s recent letter (Advice being ignored, October 1) for a number of reasons.

Light our darkness

9:30am Monday 6th October 2008

I was pleased to see a mention of the role our small band of volunteers has played in attempting to preserve tansy leaf beetles (and other endangered species) along the River Ouse, whose numbers have probably been further reduced by this summer’s awful weather and flooding (Saving rare river beetle, The Press, October 2).

Pointless changes

9:27am Monday 6th October 2008

I REFER TO the recent articles in The Press, “Blitz on parent parking” September 4, followed by “Police in school parking purge” September 27.

A green answer

9:28am Monday 6th October 2008

I believe the persons who go round spraying paint actually think of themselves as artists. Removing their efforts costs York people too much money.

Safer for cyclists

9:28am Monday 6th October 2008

READING the letter by Phil Shepherdson (Spare a thought for cycle riders, September 27), I can support those comments, as I have seen the same myself in this city of near misses.

Driver errors

9:29am Monday 6th October 2008

A letter suggested that cyclists could have training to help cope with the traffic (Cycling is the way of the future, October 2).

What next from climate change gurus?

9:29am Monday 6th October 2008

Is there nothing the climate-change fashionistas won’t try to blame for their doom-and-gloom prophecies which pour from them on a daily basis (The meat problem, The Press, October 1)?

Helping with pain

9:29am Monday 6th October 2008

The York Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group is holding a pain management day on Saturday, and we still have a few places left.

Pillars of wisdom

9:22am Saturday 4th October 2008

IN response to the article “Footpath danger for York elderly” (September 22), may I suggest that when City of York Council’s highway department repair the damaged footpath in the problem area, that they erect concrete pillars.

Fresh market forces

9:22am Saturday 4th October 2008

Recently, I conducted a survey comparing the price of a basket of 13 different vegetables from two major supermarkets, a York greengrocer, an organic vegebox scheme and Newgate Market.

Fresh vision call for Hungate site

9:23am Saturday 4th October 2008

The Hungate option for City of York Council’s HQ has not yet been ruled out, though its shortcomings are made clear in The Press’s report (And then there were three, September 26).

Solving school parking problems

9:23am Saturday 4th October 2008

THE issue of parking outside and in close proximity to schools has been a bone of contention over many years, and has increased because of the surge in vehicle ownership (Police in school parking purge, The Press, September 27).

Lighting worries

9:23am Saturday 4th October 2008

The European Commission has reintroduced plans to make daytime running lights (DLRs) on all vehicles compulsory from 2011.

Bypass ‘disaster’

9:24am Saturday 4th October 2008

I cannot blame Coun John Galvin for seeking to better conditions for his voters, but I believe his particular proposal for a Bishopthorpe bypass would be a disaster if adopted (Village bypass hope, The Press, October 1).

Where was all our local food?

8:31am Friday 3rd October 2008

LAST Sunday I spent a marvellous afternoon at the annual Festival of Food & Drink in the small market town of Alnwick in Northumberland.

Topsy’s torment

8:31am Friday 3rd October 2008

With reference to your article “Flood victim, 91, to meet the PM” (The Press, September 30), hasn’t the poor woman suffered enough?

Bridge dangers

8:31am Friday 3rd October 2008

With reference to the article by Sue Nelson about railway danger (Playing a very dangerous game, The Press, September 29), here in Old Moor Lane we have endured rock throwing and the like since the roadworks gave yobs a platform to hit us and drew attention to what is a quiet enclave. We had our doorbell pinched from the conservatory and the bell dinged from afar to wake us up.

Gurkha victory

8:32am Friday 3rd October 2008

What a brilliant outcome for Britain’s Gurkha Regiment soldiers, after being forced to go cap in hand to the High Court in London.

Banking on solution

8:32am Friday 3rd October 2008

It is a cause for some concern that the taxpayer is having to stump up to nationalise failing banks in light of the financial mismanagement of these institutions.
